Day 1                                                                                                                                                     Thursday             7 May

 

We depart Auckland on Air New Zealand flight 123 at 7.50am arriving at 9.40am.

A transfer by coach will be provided into the Sofitel on Collins.  25 Collins St, Melbourne.

We will check in and see which rooms are ready then it will be time to have a relaxing coffee at a nearby Café before reconvening in the hotel foyer at 1.10 for our taxi ride to our first stop.

Today we will ease into the scene with a visit to the Gertrude Street Studios and a wander around Brunswick Street afterwards.

You are welcome to join Sue and Glen for an early dinner and wander over to the NGV Australia, Federation Square which is open until 9 tonight.

We will meet in the foyer for those interested at 5pm.

 

Day 2                                                                                                                                                     Friday                   8 May

 

This morning we will meet at 10.00 at Journal Café, 253 Flinders Lane, in front of the Melbourne City Library. They are a cash only café with quirky Italian food, and a bent for books.

From here we will spend the better part of the day on a journey visiting galleries and points of interest along Flinders Lane and beyond. Our first gallery visit is at 11am and we will stop at the Anna Schwartz Gallery to be hosted for a light lunch. We will finish this afternoon with a visit to Tolarno Galleries and Neon Parc .

Other galleries visited include: Block Projects, Mailbox 141, Gabriella Pizzi Gallery and Arc One

 

Day 3                                                                                                                                                     Saturday              9 May

 

This morning we will start at 10.30 with a tramride to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA). A landmark contemporary building and renowned public gallery, we are lucky to time our visit to see the influential annual emerging artists show, NEW09. Featuring works by 8 contemporary Australian artists. (see included intro)

At 12.30 we will convene for lunch, and a taxi ride over to the Niagara Gallery. Here we will be met by Gallery Manager, Gina Lee who will show us their two current exhibitions as well as introduce us to works from a selection of their stable of artists in the upstairs stockroom.  We will return to the hotel by 4pm.

And as if that was not enough, at 5.45 pm we will head out by taxi. We are privileged to have been invited to the home of two renowned Melbourne collectors for light refreshments and an introduction to some of the works in their collection. We plan to be finished and return you to the hotel around 8pm.

Day 4                                                                                                                                                     Sunday                 10 May

 

Join us at 9.50am to take our bus out to Healesville in the Yarra Valley to visit the TarraWarra Museum of Art, a unique privately owned public gallery set in a beautiful vineyard. Enjoy an introduction, spend time wandering the galleries, and enjoy the vista. At 12.15 we head to the vineyard restaurant for your complimentary two course lunch.

After lunch we will join the bus again for the one hour drive to the Heide Museum of Modern Art, at Heidelberg, a place packed with Australian art history and contemporary exhibitions.

We will be back in Melbourne approx 5pm.

 

Day 5                                                                                                                                                     Monday               11 May

 

Check out this morning. Your tour ends with the bus back to the airport for your noon flight back to Auckland. Those that wish may stay on in town to shop and make their own way back to the airport for your early evening flight.
